高分子聚合物及其制品在使用或贮存过程中,由于受热、光照、臭氧氧化、或金属离子的催化作用,其表面逐渐发生变化,例如变色、发粘、变硬发脆、裂纹等;同时机械性能降低,伸长率等大幅度下降,透气率增大,以致失去使用价值,这种现象称为老化或热氧老化。为了抑制或延缓上述变化的进程,延长它们的使用寿命,提高其使用价值,人们在高分子聚合物的制备过程中加入一些能延缓其老化的化合物,这类化合物就是抗氧剂。
During the use or storage of high molecular polymers and their products, the surface gradually changes due to heat, light, ozone oxidation, or metal ions, such as discoloration, stickiness,hardening and brittleness, cracks, etc. At the same time, the mechanical properties are lowered, the elongation rate is greatly reduced, and the air permeability is increased, so that the use value is lost. This phenomenon is called aging or thermal oxygen aging. In order to suppress or delay the progress of the above changes, prolong their service life and increase their use value, people add some compounds which can delay their aging during the preparation of high molecular polymers, and these compounds are antioxidants.
受阻酚是最有效的抗氧剂之一,其结构中含有—OH官能团,比较容易给出氢原子,即通过质子给予作用,从而破坏自由基自动氧化链反应:
Hindered phenol is one of the most effective antioxidants, and its structure contains -OH functional groups, which are relatively easy to give hydrogen atoms, that is, destroying the free radical auto-oxidation chain reaction by proton donation:
Ar-OH + ROO·→ ROOH + Ar-O·
此过程生成的芳氧自由基比较稳定,它兼具捕获活性自由基的能力,进而还可以终止第二个动力学链:
Ar-O·+ ROO·→ROO-O-Ar(非自由基产物)。包括醌类在内的中间产物,对防止高分子的热氧老化也有重要意义。
The aromatic oxygen radical generated by this process is relatively stable, and it has the ability to capture active free radicals, and thus can terminate the second dynamic chain:
Ar-O·+ ROO·→ROO-O-Ar (non-free radical product). The intermediates, including quinones, are also important to prevent thermal oxygen aging of polymers.
